We are extremely fortunate to be based in the beautiful and inspiring rural landscape of the Dee Valley in North Wales.

Specialising in the business-to-business trading of bulk dairy ingredients, SPEAR was established in 2008 by Nick Philpott and is still family owned and run, with Nick’s son in law Andy and daughters, Emily and Naomi driving the business forward.

We are all about balancing the market – helping producers and manufacturers manage their product excess or shortfall, placing it to achieve the best value while reducing any chance of waste.

As would be expected in the industry, our clients confidence in our business practices and quality systems is essential: Which is why we have held organic accreditation to EC Regs 834 & 889 since 2011, are certified by Organic Farmers & Growers, and have attained the AA standard of BRC Agents & Brokers accreditation for the last 5 years. We strive for ‘best practice’ in all our activities being members of Campden BRI, the British Chamber of Commerce and the Provisions Trade Federation.

Nick Philpott
Managing Director

Nick has worked in the UK Dairy Industry since 1979, with several different companies and in a variety of positions including technical, production, general management and commercial roles before creating SPEAR in 2008.

Andy Swindley
EXECUTIVE Director

Before joining SPEAR, Andy had 10 years of management experience (including HACCP & Risk Assessment) in catering and hospitality management and 5 years in project management and sales. Now with 12 years Commercial and Technical Dairy industry experience since joining SPEAR.

As well as sales he is responsible for overseeing Quality Systems, having completed BRC Academy Internal Audit Training and Campden BRI TACCP and Root Cause Analysis Training.

Andy Swindley
EXECUTIVE Director

Director – Trading Support

Before joining SPEAR, Emily had 14 years customer facing experience in the retail, hospitality and leisure industries.

Now with 13 years’ experience in the Dairy Industry including 11 years responsible for product supplier approval and risk assessment. Emily is a HACCP & Food Safety Level 2 Trained, Internal Auditor.

Emily Swindley
Director – Trading Support

Naomi Riley
Director – Finance & Administration

Prior to joining SPEAR Naomi had 12 years’ experience based in customer service, retail management and teaching.

Now with 9 years’ experience in the Dairy Industry, she is HACCP & Food Safety Level 2 Trained an Internal Auditor. She manages the critical aspects of finance and back-office administration for SPEAR.

Naomi Riley
Director – Finance & Administration

Prior to joining SPEAR Naomi had 12 years’ experience based in customer service, retail management and teaching.

Now with 9 years’ experience in the Dairy Industry, she is HACCP & Food Safety Level 2 Trained an Internal Auditor. She manages the critical aspects of finance and back-office administration for SPEAR.

Capel Hermon

Our newly created Capel Hermon Business Centre is now fully operational and Covid prepared, including heat sensing camera for access control, offering offices, conferencing and hot desking facilities.

Our new home providing the infrastructure and ambience to cope with hectic trading and post EU Exit customs administration. Allowing us to maintain the professionalism and unrivalled commitment appreciated by our clients.

Capel Hermon
