We are extremely fortunate to be based in the very appropriate rural landscape of Palé Sheiling, near Bala in North Wales.

Specialising in the business-to-business trading of bulk dairy ingredients, SPEAR was established in 2008 by Nick Philpott and a decade later is still family owned and run, with Nick’s daughters, Emily and Naomi and son in law Andy working in the business.

We are all about balancing the market – helping both producers and manufacturers to place their output / excess output where it will gain best value while reducing any chance of waste.

As would be expected in the industry, our clients confidence in our business practices and quality systems is essential: Which is why we have held organic accreditation to EC Regs 834 & 889 since 2011, are certified by Organic Farmers & Growers and have BRC Agents & Brokers accreditation. Nick Philpott
Managing Director

Nick has worked in the UK Dairy Industry since 1979, with several different companies and in a variety of positions including technical, production, general management and commercial roles before creating SPEAR in 2008.

Andy Swindley
Sales Director

Before joining SPEAR, Andy had 10 years of management experience (including HACCP & Risk Assessment) in catering and hospitality management and 5 years in project management and sales. Now with 10 years Commercial and Technical Dairy industry experience since joining SPEAR.

As well as sales he is responsible for overseeing Quality Systems, having completed BRC Academy Internal Audit Training and Campden BRI TACCP and Root Cause Analysis Training.

Andy Swindley
Sales Director

Before joining SPEAR, Andy had 10 years of management experience (including HACCP & Risk Assessment) in catering and hospitality management and 5 years in project management and sales. Now with 10 years Commercial and Technical Dairy industry experience since joining SPEAR.

Director – Trading Support

Before joining SPEAR, Emily had 14 years customer facing experience in the retail, hospitality and leisure industries.

Now with 11 years’ experience in the Dairy Industry including 9 years responsible for product supplier approval and risk assessment. Emily is a HACCP & Food Safety Level 2 Trained, Internal Auditor.

Emily Swindley
Director – Trading Support

Before joining SPEAR, Emily had 14 years customer facing experience in the retail, hospitality and leisure industries.

Naomi Riley
Director – Administration

Prior to joining SPEAR Naomi had 12 years’ experience based in customer service, retail management and teaching.

Now with 7 years’ experience in the Dairy Industry, she is HACCP & Food Safety Level 2 Trained and also an Internal Auditor. She covers the accounts administration for SPEAR.

Naomi Riley
Director – Administration

Prior to joining SPEAR Naomi had 12 years’ experience based in customer service, retail management and teaching.

Now with 7 years’ experience in the Dairy Industry, she is HACCP & Food Safety Level 2 Trained and also an Internal Auditor. She covers the accounts administration for SPEAR.

Bethan Jones
TRADER

With a background in retail management, logistics & corporate buying, Beth joined SPEAR in October 2017. Bringing depth of experience and ability to the company, she is also another addition to our HACCP & Food Safety Level 2 Trained Internal Auditing capability.

Beth is also the first non-family member to work in the business – the vanguard of more to come.

Bethan Jones
TRADER

With a background in retail management, logistics & corporate buying, Beth joined SPEAR in October 2017. Bringing depth of experience and ability to the company, she is also another addition to our HACCP & Food Safety Level 2 Trained Internal Auditing capability.

Beth is also the first non-family member to work in the business – the vanguard of more to come.

The business continues to grow, and we will be moving to our new home in a deconsecrated church building that we are refurbishing as our new head office, business centre and community hub. The hope is that the effort needed will bring benefits not just to SPEAR but even more resources to our customers while bolstering the economy and spirit of our local community.
